My Hydro Experience
I booked myself and my family into the hydro for the day to have a reflexology treatment done.
I guess I didn't think about the fact that I was going to a hydro and not a spa when I booked it. The reflexology session was excellent and performed by a professional, however it defnitely did not have the relaxing spa feel that I am used to. No music, no dim lights and with a consultation during and after the session.
I think the hydro's treatments are done more for therapeutic purposes and although are excellent, you have to realise that it is not like a spa treatment.
The hydro itself is beautiful. There are amazing grounds all around where you can relax and walk. There was also a lovely selecton of complementary teas in the lounge area.
There is a lovely large pool and the staff are very helpful. I also stayed for lunch at the hydro and had a lovely vegetarian buffet selection of foods. I do not think that a meat lover would be too happy eating there for too long. The food was however excellent and I am sure it must be beneficial when staying for a period of time.
The hydro however gave me a more clinical and consultation room feeling to it, then a spa for relaxation. I do not doubt that it would be an excellent retreat when wanting to treat or balance the body and mind, however do not go there for a day treatment if you are expecting a pampering treatment performed as you are used to in a spa setting. I do however think that the therapists are of a very high standard and that the treatments you get at the hydro are probably a lot more professionally done then what you would receive at a lot of spas in South Africa.
